This week, USI’s Secondary School students have been participating in Wellbeing Week, an initiative that has been observed by several schools in the Orbital Education group across the world.
Why? Because looking after our wellbeing helps us feel better, learn better, and do better in and out of school. Each day had a theme — from mindfulness to teamwork, self-care, and gratitude — giving us small, practical ways to build healthy habits.
It’s also about supporting one another and strengthening our school community. The skills our students practiced this week aren’t just for now - they’ll help us manage challenges and stay balanced in the future too.
From engaging workshops to thoughtful discussions and creative activities, our students embraced a week that was memorable and meaningful.
The wellbeing activities that took place throughout the week included:
- Lunchtime Pause Pods – to help students take time out from their busy day and enjoy a quiet moment
- Time to reflect on what students want to achieve and how they can be kind to themselves and others
- Activities to reduce stress and anxiety
- Teamworking activities
- Kindness Challenges
- Discussions about the things we are thankful for
Why is this so important to us, and Orbital Education as a group?
At Orbital Education, nurturing the whole student is at the heart of everything the group does. Yes, we support academic success, but we also recognise that emotional wellbeing plays a vital role in a student's ability to learn, thrive, and grow. After all, students who feel supported and emotionally balanced tend to perform better academically, too.
But it’s about more than just grades. We care deeply about our students' happiness—and what better reason is there?
Creating space for wellbeing activities in school helps strengthen the sense of belonging and teamwork within our communities. It builds stronger relationships between students and staff and fosters a culture where everyone feels safe to speak openly about their mental health.
By prioritising emotional development, we’re helping students build resilience, develop healthy coping strategies, and prepare for life’s challenges—both in and out of the classroom.
