The Harmony Project is a learning journey designed to help pupils understand the natural world and explore how we can live in greater harmony with it.
The project, in collaboration with The King's Foundation encourages children to recognise the connection between all living things, deepening their respect for the environment while developing practical ways to protect it.
As the name Harmony suggets, we are also joined or connected with nature. The goal of The Harmony Project is not juts to teach sustainability, but to help students recognise their dependence within a living world.
At United School International, our aim is to give our students a new way of looking at the world, impacting their understanding of nature and their place in it.
USI Integration of The Harmony Project
Through thoughtful curriculum integration, students at USI have been learning key skills for implementing nature and technology concepts across various subjects. This approach has led to purposeful outcomes, enabling students to fully understand long-term sustainability.
On 8th January 2026, this was displayed in spectacular fashion in an event held in the USI auditorium, where students presented the results of their work to an enthralled audience of family and friends.
Years 1 and 2
Year 1 and 2 studied flowers. They learned about repeating patterns, and students saw that nature is not random or chaotic, but organised and harmonious. The Harmony Project has also helped build observational skills and a sense of connection with nature.
Years 3 and 4
Students in Years 3 and 4 explored the vital role bees play in our ecosystem, and why protecting pollinators is essential for biodiversity and food production.
Learning was delivered through a cross-curricular approach linking science, mathematics, art and technology. Pupils explored Islamic geometric design, analysing symmetry, angles and repeating patterns. Using GeoGebra, they created precise 8-pointed stars.
Years 5 and 6
Students in Years 5 and 6 explored how geometry helps us understand the natural world and our place within it. By studying patterns in the night sky, in nature and through the work of the Ancient Greeks, students discovered how mathematical ideas reveal harmony, balance and connection.
Learning Sustainability Through Art
The event also included an exhibition of highly-impressive art projects, aligned to the Harmony Project's mission of connecting ducation, nature and community engagement.
This showcase of work represented just the start - students will continue to engage with The Harmony Project across all aspects of the curriculum as USI further embeds sustainability and environmental initiatives at the heart of our school.
